2013 Museum Semillon

2013 was a terrific Vintage for Semillon, creating wines that possess effortless concentration and balance.

Now seven years old, this Semillon still shows full-bore delicious tropical aromas, revelling in youthfully bright scents of lime, lemon, guava and white pineapple.

Flavours are fine and focused too, retaining the crisp citrus freshness, elegance and length of classic Hunter Semillon; the more mature characters of vanilla shortbread and white-clover honey are gradually building and will continue to amplify. It’s an impressively complete wine that is both vibrant and soft, drinking wonderfully now and for the next 10 years.

Tasting Notes

This single vineyard on Deasys Road, Pokolbin was established in 1978 on volcanic, clay and limestone soils. The site has a gentle rise with a Western aspect, providing plentiful sunlight for consistently outstanding fruit. Latara Semillon posses a very striking personality: a pure clarity of colour, aroma and flavour, delivering extra radiance and volume with natural grace and power.

Colour : Extremely fine with flecks of lime and neon-green.

Aromas: The vineyard signature fruit characters are ripe lime-juice and lemongrass through to zesty tropical notes of Kaffir lime and pineapple. 

Palate: A bolder expressive palate full of juicy lime energy with the textural roundness of golden apple with zesty tropical fruit and pineapple. Flavours combine with an elegant sherbet-like balance: fresh and tangy, effortlessly long, with terrific focus and persistence. 

Cellaring: Showing beautiful harmony already, but in 5 years it will be sensational drinking, and in 10 years even better.

The true varietal characters of musk and green apple offer bright, refreshing aromas lifting out of the glass. Nutty spice and the waxy textures of macadamia and barley carry through on the palate with the fruit flavours of white peach, pear and lime zest. A lovely balance of fruit and exotic spice that complements a wide variety of foods and appeals instantly.

This snappy, bright Semillon is the perfect refreshment. We make this wine in a way that emphasises Semillon's most tantalising aromas and flavours. On the nose, its a melange of crushed pear, pineapple, lime and meringue. The palate springs out of the glass with tang and flavour, just a hint of Campari-like sherbert with lemon-lime, guava, green apple and lychee.

Pop it in the fridge or ice bucket immediately, and serve chilled.

Food Match: Spicy Asian dishes, semi soft cheese with a fresh fruit plate.

Latara vineyard on Deasys Road, Pokolbin was established in 1978 on volcanic, clay and limestone soils. The site has a gentle rise with a Western aspect, providing plentiful sunlight for optimal ripening.

This is a classic Hunter Valley Semillon with pale colour - green straw purity flecked with lemon-tinged hints.The aromas of a young Semillon are often subtle, however this wine has an enticing tropical bouquet of lime juice, lemonade zest and distinctive hints of guava. The palate of the wine has the fine and delicate structure that Semillon purists will revel in, showcasing ripe lime juice flavours which run with terrific focus and length. The finish of the flavour is long and fresh, lasting with tangy lemon-zest and hints of pink grapefruit.

Drink: Now to 2026.
Food Match: Fresh oysters, and prawns.
