2015 Field of Mars Semillon Block 2a

FIELD OF MARS - Single Vineyard Range

Field of Mars Semillon Block 2a 2015

Variety:   100% Semillon

Region:    Pokolbin, Hunter Valley

Vineyard: Keith Tulloch Field of Mars Vineyard

Vine age: Vines planted in 1968

Tasting Note

The tiny 0.25 hectare Block 2a vineyard planted in 1968, is a special site with the deepest drifts of fine white river-sand, which inherently generates the purest expression of Semillon. This little “island of vines” – surrounded on three sides by meandering dry-stream-beds – consistently produces the finest elements of classic structure and balance, and that magical combination of delicacy and extreme length. The Vintage 2015 generated very special whites with exceptional finesse, combining a striking clarity of fruit energy with fine, delicate litheness.

Colour: Pale, crystal clear straw green.

Aroma: The white-sand of the Field of Mars Block 2a delivers Semillon fruit with extraordinary focus, centred on the hallmark aromatic intensity of lime juice and lemon zest, and here it is wonderfully supported by ripples of crunchy grapefruit and lime-shred marmalade.

Palate: On the palate, the yellow-citrus purity is sovereign, and it bestows sublime lustrous quality with effortless grace, pushing out to a long fine finish which persists with the precise tangy freshness. Delicious hints of mineral and chalk stay on the palate along with an exquisite lift of white fig and pineapple.

Cellaring potential: The 2015 Field of Mars Semillon is flawless, showing the pedigreed line with all of the traits for great cellaring beyond 15 years.

2018 Latara Vineyard Semillon

Variety:      100% Semillon

Vineyard:    Keith Tulloch Latara Vineyard

Region:       Pokolbin, Hunter Valley

Vine age:    Vines planted in 1978

Tasting Notes

This single vineyard on Deasys Road, Pokolbin was established in 1978 on volcanic, clay and limestone soils. The site has a gentle rise with a Western aspect, providing plentiful sunlight for consistently outstanding fruit. This vineyard was purchased by Keith Tulloch Wine in 2017, and the first vintage of Latara Semillon was hand-picked, destemmed and then pressed in late January of 2018, before fermentation in a stainless steel tank.

Aromatically the wine has signature Semillon perfumes of lemongrass, lime and wet stone. On the palate, chalky, zesty intensity is layered with the bold flavour of lemon, green apple and sherbert, finishing with a softness and length of white melon and lime.

The vineyard has natural grace and power, a site simply demanding a single vineyard release such as this wine.

Recolo ( Verb - latin) : 'I remember'

This fresh, inviting Rosé is worth remembering. First, there are the aromas, like crushed raspberries and rosewater; the flavours that follow are racy blood orange zest, cherry, pomegranate and watermelon. To finish there's a bead of red-grape texture and crunchy pink lady apple, enough to remind you that you're drinking a crisp, dry Rosé.
