Variety: 40% Marsanne | 38% Viognier | 22% Roussanne
Region: Hunter Valley | Hilltops

Tasting Notes

Epogée has a charming aromatic signature - rich musk and jasmine perfumes fill the glass from the first to the last moment, with bold nectarine/golden peach juiciness at its core. The palate is all about plushness and texture, with this riot of ripe fruits combining to create strong velvet depth, and deliciously soft bees-waxy mouthfeel. The extra dominance of Marsanne and Roussanne in the blend delivers macadamia-like creaminess, and fine French oak bookmarks everything with seamless complexity. One year of bottle age is highly recommended to allow Epogée to show it's true magic.

Field of Mars Block 1 Shiraz 2014

Planted in 1968 on deep black clay soils, this old-vine Hunter Shiraz has intensity, filling the glass with saturated black fruits complemented by layer upon layer of gentle richness: black cherry, liquorice, black chocolate, black pepper, and juniper. Elements of regional terrior with aromas of currant and clove adding heady intensity to the fruit darkness at first, yielding inevitably to the massive power of cassis-like richness and oak-spice opulence which builds with unstoppable momentum.

This inky fruit combines with beautiful oak spice for magical harmony, delivering superb balance in rolling waves of mouth-filling and steadfast persistence, deep yet gentle, showing a velvet foundation of tannins with a slight espresso-like dryness and tongue-staining grain. This wine is the “Magnum Opus” of our reds from the great Vintage of 2014 and will greatly reward cellaring beyond 10 years.
