2018 McKelvey Shiraz

Single Vineyard Range

2018 McKelvey Vineyard Shiraz

Variety:     100% Shiraz

Region:     Pokolbin, Hunter Valley

Vineyard:  McKelvey Vineyard

Vine Age:  Vines planted in 1998

Tasting Note

A single vineyard Hunter Valley Shiraz identified by the combination of vine site and clone. Soils are rich red-brown clay loam overlying a base of powdery limestone, on a gentle hillside with a north to north-west aspect on Deasys Road, Pokolbin.

Colour : Very deeply saturated crimson-dark scarlet, with a vibrant purple/blue at the rim.

Aroma:  Great Shiraz sites in the Hunter reveal shape-shifting and vivid aromas – indirect rather than exact in nature. This wine brims with purple fruits and flowers – blackberry, blueberry, then boysenberry and spiced plum, fragrances of liquorice, lilac, and rosemary – all coming together separately and at once.

Palate: Equally laden with dark black fruit intensity, a fine gaminess with hints of sweet, floral savoriness. A wonderful structure which balances the blackberry and plummy dark fruits with a bright spicy lift of rosemary, all-spice herb, cured meat, plus fine clove. Large format oak has held the oak influence to a minimum. Here the brightness of fruit and its floral freshness really deserves to hold all of your attention.

The 2018 McKelvey delivers savoury excellence. It is incredibly young in its voyage of development yet so remarkable in its delivery. Over time it will build momentum and dial-up in every element.

2018 Tawarri Shiraz

Single Vineyard Range

2018 Tawarri Vineyard Shiraz

Variety:  100% Shiraz
Region:  Upper Hunter Valley

Tasting Notes

Sited at the top reaches of the Hunter Valley, high on the slopes of the Great Dividing Range at an altitude of 460m. This isolated site benefits from rich black soils and a cool, dry continental climate; the result is a Shiraz showcasing such wonderful depth of colour, deeply saturated with dark crimson and scarlet tinged with vibrant indigo at the rim.

The aroma equally boasts not only fresh and floral aromas of black fruit but more cool-climate notes of violets and peppercorn from the altitude and soils of this vineyard. Bright energetic flavours of black cherry, damson plum and spice - more black pepper than briar - with delicious depth are tightly coiled around a line of fine natural acidity, surrounded by the supporting flavour and textures of maturation in French oak barrique.

This is a concentrated yet elegant wine from a great Vintage that surpasses any Tawarri release we’ve made before. For sheer intensity and finesse, it’s a marvel, that that cries out for cellaring for 5 to 10 years at least.

2018 Hunter Valley Shiraz Viognier

2018 Hunter Valley Shiraz Viognier

Variety:  Shiraz (95%) | Viognier (5%)
Region:  Hunter Valley
Vine Age:  40+ years old

Tasting Notes

Brilliant scarlet-red in colour and brim-full with ripeness, this S/V shows the luxuriant completeness of co-fermenting, combining the Shiraz aromatic richness of soft black-cherry (95%) with floral jasmine-like perfumes of Viognier (5%). This profusion of fruit combines on the palate with plush unity: dense yet satiny smooth, blackberry and cola-like with milk-chocolate softness, given extra sheen and depth from fine French oak, completing this opulent balance with a foundation of fine-spice vanilla and cinnamon.

The 2018 vintage gave us stellar harvesting conditions and fruit condition, this Shiraz-Viognier has appeal for immediate drinking or medium term cellaring.

2019 McKelvey Chardonnay

Single Vineyard Range

2019 McKelvey Vineyard Chardonnay

Variety:     100% Chardonnay

Vineyard:  McKelvey Vineyard

Region:     Pokolbin, Hunter Valley

Vine age:  Vines planted in 1998

Tasting Note

The soils are rich red-brown clay loam overlying a base of powdery limestone, on a gentle hillside with a north to north-west aspect.

Colour is a pearl-like shimmer of chiffon-lemon-yellow tinged with opaline light green.

Aromas are intense and sophisticated, ripe citrus and stone fruits mixing with myrtle and verbena, tantalisingly elegant layers of barrel ferment giving unobtrusive dimensions of spice with the gentle fumé elements of sandalwood, mineral, and gun-flint simmering in the background.

The palate shows a ripe fruit length, seductively textured, nuanced with creamy, nutty, and ethereal mealy softness like nougat and fine pistachio.Oak is very subtle, almost saline, contributing a sustained savoury lightness plus a final dusting of spice and vanilla.

2020 PERDIEM 'Recolo' Rosé

2020 PERDIEM 'Recolo' Rose

Variety:   Shiraz, Viognier, Semillon
Region:   Hunter Valley

Tasting Notes

Recolo ( Verb - latin) : 'I remember'

This fresh, inviting Rosé is worth remembering. First, there are the aromas, like crushed raspberries and rosewater; the flavours that follow are racy blood orange zest, cherry, pomegranate and watermelon. To finish there's a bead of red-grape texture and crunchy pink lady apple, enough to remind you that you're drinking a crisp, dry Rosé.

Pop in the fridge or ice bucket immediately and serve chilled. Drink tonight with good food and company.
