2025 Field of Mars Viognier B1

FIELD OF MARS - Single Vineyard Range

Field of Mars Viognier Block 1 2025

Variety:   100% Viognier

Region:     Pokolbin, Hunter Valley

Vineyard:  Keith Tulloch Field of Mars Vineyard

Soils:       Transitionary from rich clay, through to pebbly rocks and onto sandy alluvium

Tasting Note

Planted into a unique combination of transitional soils, on the divide between dark fertile cracking clays and alluvial sands. Between these soils there is a narrow band with water worn pebbles, like the edge of a dry stream. The three soils in the same block generates a range of expression in the fruit, showing the full spectrum of Viognier’s personality.

Rich and bold by name and nature, this Viognier fills the glass with ripe fruit perfumes of citrus  and orange blossom. Floral scents are in full support, revealing deeper scents of chamomile, brown fig and a dusting of cinnamon.

The palate is full with peach and apricot, building with spiced notes of poached-pear and gingerbread. The oak is whisper soft, allowing these nectar like exotic fruit notes to glide over the warm notes of almond-meal and gingersnap. The bright Viognier fruit wins onto the finish, giving final tangy notes of peach-skin and fig at the close.

This Viognier is delicious already, it will hold with cellaring for 3 to 5 years or so, but its overall harmony now is as good as it ever gets.

FIELD OF MARS - Single Vineyard Range

Field of Mars  Block 2 Semillon  2023

Variety:   100% Semillon

Region:    Pokolbin, Hunter Valley

Vineyard: Field of Mars Vineyard

Vine age: Vines planted in 1968

Soil:         Fine, sandy alluvial

Planted in 1968 on the finest alluvial sand, this vineyard site generates the ideal expressions of Hunter Semillon and is the pinnacle of our Vintage. It generates an ultra-fine white wine possessing the very best of zesty fruit brightness, always showing extraordinary length and beautifully fresh minerally persistence. Vintage 2023 weather was dry and stable throughout January, allowing for an unhurried harvest and extraordinarily high quality.

Aromas shift effortlessly between lemon juice and lemon curd with dynamic brightness, and highlight notes of citrus blossom and fine musky jasmine.

Fruit flavours are crystal clear and very direct, with pristine juiciness showing exceptional concentration. A finely textured palate delivering satin-soft flavour accents of citron-tart and fine pastry, yellow apple and honey-dew melon. Classically refined with a crisp minerally length, the palate retains vibrant focus, finishing with tangy notes of lemon-zest and sweet orange-grapefruit.

Always incredibly delicate and exuberant from the very first sip and has the timeless freshness for 10+ years in the cellar.

2024 Celest Chardonnay

Single Vineyard Range

2024 Celest Vineyard Chardonnay

Variety:   Chardonnay 100%

Vineyard: Celest Vineyard

Region:    Broke-Fordwich, Hunter Valley

Tasting Note

Planted in 1988 into alluvial soils washed down from the ancient sandstone hills bounding the southern wall of the vineyard, in the Broke valley.

Fresh and full perfumes of nectarine, peach-skin and mango yoghurt; brimming with tangy energy. Expressive accents of pistachio-nougat from sur-lees in barrel, finishing with the rich saline scents of oyster-shell and sea-spray.

Juicy, concentrated orchard and stone fruit flavours with the zesty vibe of mandarin / tangelo, plus the sweet-pithy focus of citron-tart; all in unison to give terrific line and length.

Very finely textured throughout, mixing pistachio and cream with a gentle touch of very fine barrel spice with a satin-like umami. The acidity shimmers with minerality, almost ethereal with terrific persistence onto the finish of the palate.

The detail is superb, and the refinement is world-class.

2024 WCD Shiraz

Single Vineyard Range

2024 WCD Vineyard Shiraz

Variety:     Shiraz (100%)
Region:     Hunter Valley

Vineyard:  WCD Vineyard

This vineyard is located less than 14km from our cellar door, on Wine Country Drive in Central Pokolbin. This site enjoys balanced weather influences, gifting the vineyard with slightly cooler summer days with slightly more Easterly breeze. Soils are deep brown clays with flecks of red ironstone.

Shiraz aromatics of rich black cherry with concentrated blackberry, plus fresh leaf-and-flower accents of sweet briar and wild rose. Deeper spice-notes of juniper and black-pepper chime in too, with fine French-oak contributing subtle, elegant, and complex notes of vanilla and cinnamon.

Inky black-fruits dominate the palate, from black cherry to sweet blackcurrant, fanning out gradually with soft velvety notes of glace-fruits and dark chocolate. From mid-palate to the finish these flavours retain their power and energy, gaining lasting accents of liquorice, integrating beautifully with the softness of toasty barrel-spice. Tannins are deep and spice-laden too, gently staining the tongue with hints of malty Assam tea and graphite.

2 or 3 years in the cellar would be ideal, or if drinking before then decant for early reward.

2024 THE KESTER Shiraz

The Family Collection

2024 The Kester Shiraz

Variety:     Shiraz (99%) Viognier (1%)
Region:     Hunter Valley

Tasting Notes

Dense crimson purple in colour.

Beautiful aromas sit at the top of the glass- fresh and concentrated black cherry with notes of raspberry liquorice-strap, and flower/bark/herb elements, all combining and building equally. Supporting notes of anise and fresh white pepper give natural lift and engagement with plush and deeper oak-spice notes of fine vanilla and roasted coffee.

The fruit power is slightly richer than the 2023 Kester, but the same fruit expression and style rings true for our flagship wine.

Luxurious flavour plushness is evident already with a deep black-fruit depth of cherry and plum. This is underpinned by superb barrel-spice integration, with super-fine tannins delivering deluxe notes of fine vanilla, and the warmth and subtle sweetness of gingerbread, ground cassia, chai, and cardamom.

The 2024 has opulent fruit volume with a fresh vibrant structure, perfectly balanced now, yet also ideal for the cellar.

Decant and drink now or cellar for 15 years, either way this is superb.
